One oF The JobS aT SchooL..

At school, I have to train the choral speaking team. Each year. It started on my 2nd year of teaching, until now. The first time, our team got the 3rd place, despite our 1st time entering such competition. As I remembered, the title was Handphones. I wrote the script with another teacher, Kak Ita, who has retired now. We trained the students almost every evening. But I had fun.

The second time, I think I borrowed the script from a friend from Kedah. She is also a teacher and actively participates in the same competition. Plus she likes to write. It's about teenagers. We changed the title to Teenagers Blues, as the KP wanted to. I didn't but who am I to say no. Surprise surprise as we won the competition. We were the champion for district level. When we went to state level, we did not win. But we still had a blast time.

The third year, I had to come up with the script alone. Great!! May I remind you that I'm not a writer, I am more of a reader. Above it all, the competition changed it's format from choral speaking to speech choir. What is speech choir, you may wonder..? It is still choral speaking but we have to add songs to the script. Just great right? The school's lucky I do listen to music. Well, it took me awhile to do the script. When I finally finished my script entitled Love, my KP, again, changed here and there. @.@

After practicing for about 2-3 months, we went to compete at a school nearby. And yes! We won again for the district level. Lucky us! That year, the competition was being sponsored by the Yayasan Sultan Mizan. Because we had won the district level, we got to have lunch with the Sultan himself at Taman Tamadun Islam Hall, together with other district winners. Of course, he sat at his place far away. But sadly, we still didn't win the state level. Marang won that year.

This year, again, it was speech choir competition, and again, I had to come up with the script. Frankly, I'm getting tired of doing the job year after year when somebody else seems to get the credit. I like to lay low, you see. So this year I asked help from another teacher in my school. I refuse to write alone this time. So we came up with Hopes and Dreams. Personally I like Love better than Hopes and Dreams. There were ups and downs during our training sessions. Students attitude, tiredness, etc.

Unfortunately, this year we only managed to get 3rd place during the district level competition. Penalty because we moved too much. I wonder who asked them to move excessively..? Hmm.. It wasn't me. A part of me was a bit glad because we did not have to go through practice all over again like previous years to prepare ourselves for the state level. I was sick of it by then. I don't know how I am suppose to face this again next year. I don't enjoy writing scripts. But taking from internet or somewhere else is not authentic, and I hate that more.

The script was Teenage Blues, district level.

This was last year, and I love the script Love.

This was after dinner with the Agong. =)
