We arrived at Sydney in the morning, around 10am. We took the night flight as we didn't want to waste our time. First thing we did was we went to the train counter to purchase our multi-pass, which we can use for the whole week. We used it to ride the train, ferry, tram and bus. We did save a lot of money there.
Then, we took the train to our hotel. Our station was Museum Station. A walking distance to our hotel. The first day we arrived it was already raining. We were not prepared for that even though we knew it was winter. We had to walk in the rain most of the days, but luckily none of us got sick.
While waiting to check-in our hotel, which was at 2pm, we walked around the block to look for lunch. It was quite hard as it was our first day and we were not familiar with the place yet. Plus the rain and two kids. We were tired and hungry. We were frustrated as well. Finally my elder sister called our relative in Sydney. He said there was a halal restaurant near us. We were so relieved. Afterwards, we went for our pre-shopping as the Paddy's Market was nearby already. I didn't buy much yet on the first day. I was just surveying that day.
Later at night, we went to Circular Quay. We watched The Vivid Light Festival which was awesome! We had a dinner-on-the-go there. At first we were doubtful to buy the food and the owner saw this. He quickly took out his halal cert and showed to us. That was quite funny. We ate our dinner at one of the jetty, looking at the Sydney Bridge, Opera Sydney House and the Vivid Light Festival. There was a huge crowd because it was the weekend.
Here are the pictures of our 1st day in Sydney.
